Ritalin, Ritalin SR, Ritalin LA ( Methylphenidate )

This is certainly the most frequently used drug for ADHD. It is a cousin of speed and cocaine. Unless you are a confirmed drug addict, you will not get high on this drug unless you crush it up and try to smoke it. When taken as a pill, it will not make you high, so it is not addictive. It requires no special monitoring.

What about slow release Ritalin?

The good thing about sustained release Ritalin is you can give it once a day and it works for about 8 hours, but not 12. It does not work as well as regular Ritalin though. It is worth a try in a person who has a good response to regular Ritalin but who does not want to take the drug at school.
